About the city
Draguignan is a French city, in the Var department, of which it is a sub-prefecture, self-proclaimed "capital of Artillery" and "Porte du Verdon". At the 1999 census the population was 32,829 inhabitants. The city land area is 53.75 km². The city is only 42 km from St. Tropez, and 80 km from Nice.
Located about 200 m above sea level, its highest point is Malmont, which rises to 604 m above sea level. Located on the edge of the Haut-Var, the main river is the Nartuby which then flows into the Argens. Draguignan is located in a valley about 2 km wide. The city of Draguignan is the 5th city in the department by its population.
